Wildlife Commission Invites Public to Waterfowl Meetings RALEIGH, N.C. (Aug. 11) – The 2004-2005 proposed waterfowl seasons, bag limits and other waterfowl topics will be discussed at the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s nine annual waterfowl meetings in August. Since seasons and bag limits for all migratory birds must fall within federal guidelines, waterfowl seasons and bag limits cannot be presented at the Wildlife Commission’s January hearings when sportsmen hear information on other game species. Each year, the Commission waits for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to define season and limit frameworks before presenting North Carolina’s proposed seasons at a special series of meetings in August. At each meeting, the Commission airs a service video summarizing lasts year’s waterfowl population, nesting and harvest data. Commission biologists will also present the service frameworks for the upcoming season as well as staff recommendations. The public is welcome to ask questions and comment on the proposed season regulations during the meetings. “We strongly encourage public participation at these meetings,” said David Cobb, chief of wildlife management for the Commission. “North Carolina has a strong waterfowl hunting heritage and we rely on public enthusiasm and feedback to provide the best sporting opportunities we can.” All meetings begin at 7 p.m. The meeting schedule is as follows:
