RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 9, 2004) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will close the Straits Landing Boating Access Area near Harkers Island on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the next several weeks. The Wildlife Commission is expanding the existing parking area at this access area and installing an innovative stormwater treatment system to comply with current regulations. Construction traffic and concerns for public safety necessitate closing the site during the week. Boaters can use the access area Friday through Sunday, with limited parking available. Construction is scheduled to be complete in late January. The Commission manages more than 190 boating access areas in North Carolina. Information about boating access areas can be found online or by calling (919) 715-3155. |
