Wildlife Resources Commission Schedules Dove Hunts for Disabled Hunters

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 26) — Private landowners and local sponsors have teamed with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission to schedule three dove hunts for disabled hunters this September in Craven, Halifax and Robeson counties.

The dove hunts for the disabled are being organized by the Wildlife Commission’s newly formed Disabled Sportsmen’s Committee, which is creating more sporting activities for disabled anglers and hunters statewide.

“We received good response for a Johnston County Catfish Roundup for disabled anglers this past weekend,” said Susie Fish, who chairs the Disabled Sportsmen’s Committee. “We’re anticipating equally good interest from disabled hunters for these dove hunts, which were made possible through land owners who volunteered their property and time to host these one-day events.”

Each of the dove hunts for disabled hunters will follow the same schedule. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and orientation at 11:45 a.m. Dove hunts are scheduled from noon until 4 p.m. Registration will be open to pairs of dove hunters — a disabled hunter and an able-bodied companion hunter. Companion hunters will be allowed to hunt, but their primary purpose will be to assist disabled hunting partners.

After each dove hunt concludes, local sponsors will provide a free meal. More information on each hunt follows.
