RALEIGH, N.C. (July 21) — Thomasville angler Emily Blaylock put down her Scooby-Doo rod and reel long enough to come to Raleigh to accept her lifetime fishing license from Progress Energy and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission during the Commissioners' meeting on July 14. Emily, 6, won one of three lifetime fishing licenses, the grand prizes in a statewide drawing to celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week, June 5-13. Fayetteville angler Katie Paxton, 12, and 5-year-old Payton Robinson from Highlands won the other two licenses. Accompanying Emily to Raleigh were her mother, Brandy Morris, stepfather, Clay Morris and sisters, Brittney, 13, and Ashlee, 4. The family, all of whom are avid anglers, is thrilled with Emily's prize. "Since we go fishing about every other weekend, it's nice to know that when Emily turns 16, she will never have to pay for a fishing license," Brandy said. "It's a great value, and a prize that we hope Emily will use a lot when she gets older." The licenses, donated by Progress Energy and valued at $250 each, give
Emily, Katie and Payton lifetime fishing privileges in all North Carolina
public waters, including designated Public Mountain Trout Waters. |
