RALEIGH, N.C. (June 23) – “Mallards at Butner/Falls of the Neuse Game Land,” the 2004 Waterfowl Stamp and Print portrait, will be available from the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission on July 1. Signed and numbered regular edition prints with mint stamps will sell for $145.

The purchase of waterfowl hunting stamps and prints is an important source of revenue for waterfowl conservation and restoration projects in North Carolina. Money from the sale of stamps and prints goes into the waterfowl fund, which supports projects such as the satellite tracking of pintail ducks to determine their migration and movement. Since its inception in 1983, the fund has raised more than $4.2 million.

This year’s print, based on an acrylic portrait by Gerald W. Putt, portrays a flock of mallard ducks seeking refuge among the sorghum at the Flat River Waterfowl Impoundment on the Butner/Falls of the Neuse Game Land in Durham County. It is the third in a series of five paintings that reflects waterfowl hunting traditions on Commission-owned game lands and impoundments.

To purchase a print and mint stamp or obtain additional information, contact the Wildlife Commission at (919) 662-4377, or visit the Wild Store after July 1.
