Wildlife Commission Closes Edwards Ferry Boat Landing For Improvements

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 28) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will close the Edwards Ferry boating access area on the Roanoke River from June 1 until Aug. 5 to widen the boat ramp and renovate the access area located on U.S. Highway 258 near Scotland Neck in Halifax County.

Earlier this year, the Wildlife Commission’s Engineering Services Division delineated the access area’s parking lot and added two handicapped-designated parking spaces, in preparation for a handicapped-accessible pier to be constructed this winter. Closing the access area this summer will allow engineers and technicians to make the boat ramp wide enough to accommodate two people launching their boats simultaneously. They also will correct drainage problems caused by a spring under the lower part of the ramp.

The Wildlife Commission provides free access to North Carolina’s public waters through more than 185 access areas located across the state. Contact the Commission’s Division of Engineering Services to obtain a free boating access area guide containing directions, 919-715-3155, or visit the Boating Maps/Locations page.
