Below you will find a table that contains directions to Piedmont Region Public Fishing Access (PFA) areas maintained by the NCWRC. This table lists the PFA area name, county, detailed directions. In addition, there is a column that notes the accessible features of the access area. Finally, if the site participates in the Fishing Tackle Loaner Program, it is also noted.

PFA areas are in alphabetical order by body of water and county.

Rock Quarry, Chatham Co. From Pittsboro, take US 64 East. Go approximately six miles, and turn left on SR 1716 (Big Woods Road). Go 4.9 miles, and area is on the right. -

From US 64 east of Pittsboro, take SR 1008 South at Wilsonville. Go 3.4 miles, and area is on the right just past the intersection with SR 1972. -

Badin Lake

Badin Pier,
Montgomery Co.

From Troy, take NC 109 North. Go nine miles and turn left into the main entrance of the Uwharrie National Forest on SR 1153. Go 0.4 mile and turn right on FSR 576. Go 0.6 mile and turn right on FSR 544. Go 2.5 miles and turn right on FSR 597. Go 0.2 mile and turn left on FSR 597A, the road leading to the campground. From the intersection, go 0.5 mile to a fork in the road. Take the right fork, pass the Group Camp, and go 0.6 mile to the parking area at the end of the road. Old Whitney,

From New London, take NC 740 East. Go 2.7 miles and turn left (north) on SR 1521 (Old Whitney Road). Go 2.6 miles to the parking lot on the right. The Public Fishing Access area is on the left at the end of the trail across the railroad tracks. -

Blewett Falls Reservoir

From the intersection of US 220 and US 74 in Rockingham, take US 74 West 6.3 miles and turn right on SR 1748 (Power Plant Road). Notes:
An eight-foot accessible concrete fishing platform is attached to the wall of the power house at Blewett Falls Lake dam. Anglers can fish the high current outflow along the length of the power house wall. Primary fish species: In the spring American shad, striped bass, white bass and white perch. Largemouth bass, catfish and sunfish are caught year round.

Falls of the Neuse Reservoir

Old 98, Wake Co.

Old 98 (Wake County): From NC 50, take NC 98 east 3.5 miles. Area is on right.

A section of shoreline and access trails have been cleared of brush. Fish attractors have been placed near the bank fishing area, and hardwood trees have been cut and cabled to the shoreline to further attract fish. Largemouth bass, sunfish, crappie, catfish, carp, white perch, and striped bass are available. Rolling View and Sandling Beach state recreation areas are located nearby and provide facilities for camping, picnicking and restrooms.

Upper Barton Creek, Wake Co. From the intersection of NC 98 with NC 50, take NC 98 East. Go 1.7 miles and turn right on SR 1005 (Six Forks Road). Go 1.1 miles, cross the lake cove, and the area is on the right. -

Indian Camp Lake

Indian Camp Lake, Richmond Co. From the intersection with SR 1475 (Caddell Road) in Hoffman, take U. S. Hwy. 1 south toward Rockingham. Go 1 mile and turn right on SR 1479 (James G. Watson Road). Go 0.7 mile, and the lake will be on the right. Cross the dam, and the access road to the parking lot will turn to the right. pier, parking, paved walkway

John H. Kerr Reservoir

McKinney Lake

McKinney Lake, Richmond Co. From Hoffman (Richmond Co.) take McDonald Church Road off of US 1 southwest of Aberdeen and Southern Pines for approximately 4 miles and turn left into the entrance to the Fish Hatchery (McKinney Lake Road) and travel approximately ½ mile to the lake on your left.
There are two piers for bank fishing and one is a universally accessible pier with handicapped parking and concrete accessible trail to the pier. Brush installed around the piers congregates fish and a fish feeder is near the pier to feed and attract a variety of fish. Fish species available are various sunfish, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, channel catfish and some crappie during the early spring. The 75-acre lake is stocked occasionally with channel catfish and bluegill from the adjacent hatchery operated by the Wildlife Commission. Small boats are launched from the boating access area and fishing is only allowed during daylight hours. For additional information or questions, contact the hatchery at (910) 895-5330.

Rabbit Shuffle Pond

Rabbit Shuffle, Caswell Co. From the intersection with NC 49 north of Burlington, take NC 62 North toward Yanceyville. Go 13.4 miles, and turn left at the Public Fishing Area sign onto a graveldirt game lands road. Go 0.5 mile on the graveldirt road to the pond (go left at all forks in the road). From Yanceyville, the graveldirt game lands road is the first road to the right past the Caswell Gamelands depot and headquarters. pier, parking

Notes:
An accessible fishing pier and a concrete handicapped parking pad have been constructed near the dam of this six-acre pond. An additional graveled parking area and a small graveled launch ramp suitable for small boats or canoes also have been constructed adjacent to the pier. Brush or plastic fish attractors have been placed in the pond. Harvestable size channel catfish are stocked monthly and fed from April through September. This pond is located on Caswell game lands, and hunting is allowed subject to the specific regulations for this game land. Other exceptions to the restrictions pertaining to most PFAs (including camping) may apply.
