Below you will find a table that contains directions to Coastal Region Public Fishing Access (PFA) areas maintained by the NCWRC. This table lists the PFA area name, county, detailed directions. In addition, there is a column that notes the accessibility of the access area. If there is a wheelchair symbol in the access column, this means that the PFA area is considered fully accessible due to the designated disabled user parking and paved walkways leading to the area. Finally, if the site participates in the Fishing Tackle Loaner Program, it is also noted.

PFA areas are in alphabetical order by body of water.

 

 

Brice's Creek
Access County Public Fishing Access area Directions
Craven Brice’s Creek From the junction of US 17 and US 70 in New Bern, take US 70 east approximately three miles and turn right on SR 1167 (Williams Road). Go approximately 1.5 miles and turn left on SR 1004 (Madame Moore’s Lane). Go 1.5 miles and turn left on SR 1143 (Perrytown Road). Go 1.3 miles and turn left on FSR 121A (at sign for boating access area). Go 1.2 miles to the area on the left at the end of the road.
Notes:
There is an accessible pier, parking lot and boat ramp. Primary fish species: largemouth bass, sunfish and pickerel.

 

 

 

Chowan River

Crawford Lake

 Scotland Crawford From US 1 in Richmond County, take NC 177 south and turn left on SR 1605. Go 5.5 miles (this road will become SR 1339 in Scotland County), and the lake will be on the right.

 

 

 

Gum Swamp River

 Scotland Gum Swamp From US 1 South of Hoffman in Richmond County, take NC 177 South to SR 1605. Turn left on SR 1605, go four miles, and turn left on SR 1609. Go 0.2 mile (This road becomes SR 1342 in Scotland County) and the area is on the left.

 

 

 

Kinney Cameron Lake

 Scotland Kinney Cameron From US 1 in Hoffman in Richmond County, take SR 1602. At the Scotland County line, this road becomes SR 1328. Go approximately one mile, and access road is on the right.

 

 

 

Lake Rim

Cumberland Lake Rim Yes From the intersection of US 401 Business and US 401 By-Pass in Fayetteville (Raeford and Skibo Roads), take US 401 South. Go approximately five miles (to the 5th. light) and turn right onto US 401 Business. Go approximately one mile and Lake Rim is on the right.

Notes:
Brush is cleared from a shoreline section and two accessible fishing piers exist. The gravel parking lot has four handicapped parking spaces. A small boat launching ramp is present (gasoline motors are prohibited). Primary fish species: largemouth bass, sunfish and catfish.

 

 

 

N.E. Cape Fear River

 Pender Holly Shelter From I-40 near Burgaw, take Exit 398 and turn east on NC 53. Go six miles and turn right on SR 1523 (Old Blake’s Bridge Road). Go six miles to area.

 

 

 

 

Roanoke Sound

Dare Manteo From Manteo, take US 64 east to the Washington Baum Bridge. The Public Fishing Access area is located on the right under the bridge on the west side of Roanoke Sound.
Notes:
An accessible fishing pier and parking lot with handicapped parking spaces are on site. Primary fish species: a variety of marine species.

 

 

 

Sutton Lake
Access County Public Fishing Access area Directions
New Hanover Sutton Lake From I-40, take Exit 398 and go west on NC 53 through Burgaw. Go 10.5 miles and turn left onto US 421. Go 17.5 miles on US 421 south, and turn right onto a small paved road at the Sutton Lake and Wildlife Boating Access Area signs. Go 1.5 miles to the end of the road (road will change to a gravel surface after 0.5 mile) and the Sutton Lake Boating Access Area. The Public Fishing Access area is to the right of the Boating Access Area. From Wilmington, take US 421 north approximately three miles and turn left onto the small paved road described above. From this point, follow the above directions.

 

 

Trent River

Jones Pollocksville This PFA is located in Pollocksville, immediately downstream of the US 17 bridge across the Trent River and adjacent to the NCWRC Boating Access Area.
Notes:
An 8 x 49 ft. fishing platform that is accessible to the physically challenged is located immediately upstream of the Boating Access Area. A paved walkway provides access from the desiganted parking spaces. Fish species in the Trent River include largemouth bass, striped bass, bluegill, redbreast sunfish, crappie, yellow perch and catfish.
