This web atlas is organized so that people wishing to obtain information about crayfishes found in North Carolina can find as much information as possible in one place. It is organized by species and each species account contains information about range, habitat, life history, ecology, and taxonomy, as well as links to a distribution map, photographs, and illustrations. Additionally, the main page contains a list of all known North Carolina species listed alphabetically and showing conservation statuses. The maps are produced such that if the species is known or suspected to occur in a sub-basin, that sub-basin is shaded as potential range. Specific localities are omitted due to the sensitive nature of some species and because many of these data are not yet published. Many of the photographs are of preserved specimens and are shown for taxonomy purposes. Photographs of live animals (in some instances) and preserved specimen photos are available. The illustrations, where available, are reproduced from published material (citation included with illustration).
